3M Window Films (Sun Control, Safety & Security, Daylight Redirecting) are meaningful additions to the product portfolio and service offerings of ESCOs.
3M Sun Control Window Films
3M Sun Control Films reduce a window’s SHGC which in turn increases the energy efficiency of a building’s envelope. We can decrease kWh usage and reduce temperature imbalances, all at a fraction of the cost of glass replacement. With a three to seven year payback and films warrantied for up to 15 years, ESCOs are embracing our solutions for their customers.
We can estimate the impact of window film on most buildings using energy modeling software co-developed by the Department of Energy (DOE) 3M Company, and the International Window Film Association. EFILM, the software standard for the window film industry, is based on the DOE’s Energy Plus model. Or if you prefer, we can provide you with the 3M window film components specific to your software (TRACE™ 700, eQuest, etc) so that you can measure the impact of our window films yourself.
In addition to estimating the payback of a 3M window film project, we will even apply for a utility rebate on your customer’s behalf, or supply you with all of the information necessary to do it yourself.
If you’re tasked with improving your customer’s LEED or Energy Star Portfolio Manager score, 3M Sun Control Films can help too!
- Reduce utility bills 2%-10%
- Reduce temperatures 5°-16°F
- Receive 2-11 LEED points
- Improve ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager™ Score by as much as 10 points
- May be eligible for utility rebates
3M Safety & Security Window Films
Many ESCOs are working to increase the safety of schools in addition to energy efficiency. School safety has been a top priority with administrators due to the rise of school shootings. It is believed that the installation of 3M Safety & Security Window Films can make unwanted entry through glass more difficult. In fact, shortly after Sandy Hook, the superintendent of that district stated in an interview that window film should be used to delay unwanted entry and give first responders more time to arrive onsite.
- Help delay or prevent unwanted entry
- Passive system that does not need to be turned on
- Available in tinted forms to help reduce utility bills
3M Daylight Redirecting Film
3M Daylight Redirecting Film (DRF) redirects sunlight toward the ceiling to reduce dependency on artificial light. 80% of the sun’s visible light can be redirected toward the ceiling at a depth of 40’ into the room. Average electrical savings as a result of using less artificial light is 1.5 kWh.
