    Some installers and end-users feel that vinyl wrap film, given its thinner nature, isn\u2019t as durable as paint protection film and is also more difficult to maintain. That\u2019s simply because vinyl behaves differently than urethane, which is the base material of PPF.<\/p>\n

    3M Protection Wrap Film (PWF) addresses that client concern because its base material is urethane, which is more durable and easier to maintain than vinyl. You can treat PWF just like you treat your car\u2019s paint. That is because PWF is clear coated, just like paint and 3M\u2019s paint protection films. Light scratches that occur under normal driving conditions can self-heal or be worked out easily with heat. And unlike most vinyl color change films, 3M PWF is backed by a ten (10) year manufacturer\u2019s warranty.<\/p>\n

    How 3M Protection Wrap Films Get Their Color<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    3M employs a sophisticated manufacturing process to produce an all-in-one film that combines the benefits of paint protection film and color change vinyl. Unlike other color paint protection films that are made by laminating urethane on top of a colored layer, 3M Protection Wrap Films get their color from pigmentation. That means the color is embedded in the urethane for stability and longevity.<\/p>\n

    Installation<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    3M Protection Wrap Film can be installed wet or dry to accommodate the preferences of paint protection film or vinyl color change installers.<\/p>\n

    Dry Apply<\/span>
    \nProtection Wrap Films can be installed in a fashion similar to 3M Vinyl Wrap Film Series 2080. Two 3M patented adhesive technologies facilitate the installation process. First, 3M Controltac minimizes the tackiness of the film\u2019s adhesive to allow the technician to position the material correctly on the vehicle. Only with pressure from the technician\u2019s squeegee will the film tack to the underlying substrate. Second, 3M\u2019s Comply adhesive allows for easy air release to help ensure a bubble-free installation.
    \nPWF is cold stretch capable, meaning it conforms to most vehicular curves and recesses using minimal to no heat. And because Protection Wrap Films can be dry apply, the installer does not need to wait to wrap the film around various surface edges.<\/p>\n

    Wet Apply<\/span>
    \n3M Protection Wrap Films can also be installed with water, just like standard paint protection films. Water allows for the repositioning, precise alignment, and workflow to which PPF installers are accustomed.
    \nThe use of deionized water or a tack solution on large panels is encouraged for more slide and positionability. Make sure to squeegee very thoroughly, removing all water underneath the film, and then dry the film edges before wrapping with a heat gun. Please be sure not to exceed a ratio of 15% IPA to deionized water.<\/p>\n
