3M Impact Protection Adhesive Overview
Energy Products Distribution (EPD), a 3M Master Distributor since 1985, sells 3M Impact Protection Adhesive (IPA), the high-strength structural silicone attachment system that anchors 3M Safety & Security Window Film, the glass, and the window frame to each other. With a standard daylight installation, filmed glass can stay together but still be pushed out of the frame as a whole during a blast or other severe impact. IPA helps address this by bonding the film to the frame, which is why security performance depends on the full system, not just the thickness or construction of the film.
Key Features
- Bonds film, glass, and frame together to help keep filmed glass in the opening during an impact
- Required by 3M for all applications
- Tested as part of a filmed glass system to ASTM E1886/E1996, ASTM E330, ASTM F1642, and GSA TS01-2003
- Available in black, gray, and white to match common frame and gaskets
- 10 to 20 minute working time and 60 to 70 minute tack-free time
- Low VOC content (30 g/L) and low odor
What We Love About 3M Impact Protection Adhesive
3M Impact Protection Adhesive gives 3M Dealers a way to get more out of every security film installation. It is a natural part of every 3M Safety Series, ULTRA Series, and S2400 projects. Including IPA in a quote helps clients get the performance shown in 3M’s testing and positions the dealer as the one handling the complete system, not just the film.
Important Installation Information
3M security films and IPA are not bulletproof. They help hold glass together and can buy time during a forced entry attempt, but they cannot fully prevent glass breakage or entry. All installations must follow 3M technical specifications and instruction guidelines. (These films are also not approved in the State of Florida for use as hurricane, windstorm, or impact protection from wind-borne debris.)
