3M S2400

3M Scotchshield S2400 represents the next generation of safety film in that it is made of urethane rather than polyester. As a 3M Master Distributor, EPD makes it easy for 3M Authorized Dealers to order 3M S2400 online with fast nationwide shipping.

3M S2400 Overview

Energy Products Distribution (EPD), a 3M Master Distributor since 1985, sells 3M Scotchshield Safety & Security Window Film System S2400, a 24-mil security film made from urethane (TPU) instead of the polyester (PET) used in traditional security films. Urethane is far more flexible than PET, with 560% elongation at break, so S2400 keeps absorbing energy as it stretches during an impact. This makes thickness comparisons with PET films misleading: a 22-mil PET film has higher break and tensile strength on paper, but S2400 has 66% more Graves tear area (24.6 vs. 14.8 lbf-in), which 3M testing shows is a better indicator of how well a film holds broken glass in place.

Key Features

  • Urethane construction provides greater tear strength and elongation than PET films of similar thickness, helping the film absorb impact
  • Helps hold broken glass in place to reduce the risk of injury from flying glass shards
  • Can help delay intruders during forced entry attempts when installed with 3M Impact Protection Attachment (IPA) Sealant
  • Tested to ANSI Z97.1, UL 972, ULC-S332, ASTM F1233, EN 356, ASTM E1886/E1996, ASTM F1642, and GSA TS01-2003
  • Optically clear, with 89% visible light transmission on clear glass
  • Blocks 99% of UV rays to help reduce fading of interior furnishings
  • Available in 60″ and 72″ roll widths

What We Love About 3M S2400

3M S2400 gives 3M Dealers a different kind of option to present when a client needs a higher level of safety and security performance, particularly for school hardening and forced entry delay. Because it is made from urethane, S2400 can open conversations with clients who assume a thicker PET film is always better, and gives dealers a clear, data-backed way to explain why material composition matters. Paired with 3M Impact Protection Attachment Sealant, it is a strong fit for schools, storefronts, and other facilities where delaying entry is a priority.

Important Installation Information

3M S2400 films are not bulletproof. They help hold glass together and can buy time during a forced entry attempt, but they cannot fully prevent glass breakage or entry. All installations must follow 3M technical specifications and instruction guidelines, including the installation of 3M’s Impact Protection Attachment (IPA) system. Avoid pairing S2400 with a PET-based film on the same pane, since it restricts elongation and reduces performance. S2400 is not tested to ASTM F3561-22. (This film is also not approved in the State of Florida for use as hurricane, windstorm, or impact protection from wind-borne debris.)
