3M Dichroic Glass Film

Dichroic Film: An Affordable Alternative to Dichroic Glass
Glass doesn’t have to be clear and colorless. Dichroic window film creates a dynamic, color-shifting effect that changes with light and viewing angle, similar to traditional dichroic glass.
While dichroic architectural glass delivers this look, it is often expensive and impractical. Dichroic glass film provides a more cost-effective alternative, offering the same visual impact without the high material and installation costs.
3M dichroic film is a value-engineered solution that can be installed on clear glass, whether new or existing, and applied to interior or exterior surfaces. This film replicates the look of dichroic glass at a fraction of the cost, typically around 10% of the price ($15 per square foot for film vs. $150 per square foot for glass).
That spells significant cost savings and resources left over to devote to other areas of a project.

Dichroic Film vs. Dichroic Glass
Dichroic window film offers many of the same visual benefits as dichroic glass, while providing practical advantages that make it a more accessible solution for a wide range of projects.
Lower Cost: Producing dichroic glass requires specialized materials and manufacturing processes, which can make it expensive to specify. Dichroic film delivers a similar color-shifting, iridescent appearance at a much lower cost.
Simple Installation: Unlike dichroic glass, which typically requires full panel replacement, dichroic film can be applied directly to existing glass surfaces. This reduces installation time, minimizes disruption, and avoids the need for major structural changes.
Greater Design Flexibility: Dichroic film can be trimmed, shaped, and applied in a variety of ways, making it easier to adapt to unique design requirements. This level of flexibility allows for more creative applications compared to traditional glass panels.

3M’s Dichroic Film Options
3M manufactures two different dichroic films that are warrantied for up to seven (7) years.
DF-PA Blaze: Simulates dichroic glass by shifting colors in the warm tones of cyan/blue/magenta and red/gold color regions of the spectrum.
DF-PA Chill: Simulates dichroic glass by shifting colors in the cool tones of blue/magenta/yellow and gold/blue color regions of the spectrum.
