How long does windshield protection film last?

There are many factors that determine the longevity of windshield protection film. Vehicle and windshield wiper usage, weather, UV exposure, and ongoing maintenance affect the product’s lifespan. Most manufacturers provide an estimated lifespan and even provide a warranty against premature product failure (excludes misuse, abuse, and wear and tear).

Windshield Skin, manufactured by Bray Group, is an optically clear, peel away film that is installed on the outside of a windshield to protect it from cracking or breaking from road debris, saving you the hassle and inconvenience of windshield replacement. Windshield Skin should last up to 12 months on a daily driver and even longer for vehicles driven only on weekends.

The two biggest threats to product lifespan are:

  1. Wiper haze: Windshield wiper usage affects lifespan. Deteriorated wiper blades can be abrasive and scratch the film during use. In addition, airborne contaminants that collect on parked windshield wipers can be dragged across the film during the next wiper swipe.
  2. Car washes: Motorists are accustomed to using high pressure water to assist in the car washing process. Intense water pressure, especially if concentrated in a specific area for an extended period of time, can wear away the film’s top coat and cause premature film failure.

Motorists can prolong the life of their Windshield Skin by using Bray Group’s Maintenance Wipes. These specially formulated wipes, when used regularly, prolong the life of the material as they restore the film’s protective top coat.

Bray Group warranties Windshield Skin against yellowing, bubbling, and cracking for one year from date of installation. Please see manufacturer’s warranty for specific terms and conditions.
