Myth: Paint Protection Film yellows.

Myth: Paint Protection Film yellows.

Today’s reputable paint protection films (PPF) are designed not to turn yellow. 3M is so confident that its Pro Series Paint Protection Film will not yellow that it has a ten (10) year warranty that protects against yellowing.

It’s no secret that urethane, the main component of PPF, can yellow over time. And older paint protection films were notorious for just that. They were also notorious for other discoloration such as turning brown or green, as airborne contaminants would seep into the pores of the film since there was no clear coat or topcoat.

Today’s paint protection films are designed and manufactured not to yellow and are also clear coated, meaning that the days of brown and green discoloration are behind us. If for some reason 3M Scotchgard Pro Series Paint Protection Film that has been installed by a certified installer yellows within the ten (10) year warranty period, 3M will replace the defective film free of charge.

And because 3M’s Pro Series PPF is clear coated, you can treat the film just like you treat your car’s paint. The film can be washed, waxed, polished, and even treated to an application of 3M Ceramic Coating.

3M Ceramic Coating is a thin layer of silicone that reduces the surface friction of your car’s paint, thereby making it easier to wash away dirt and other contaminants. When applied on top of 3M Paint Protection Film, it makes maintaining and caring for the film that much easier.

Despite claims to the contrary, a ceramic coating does not protect a vehicle’s paint from rock chips and other road rash.
