A dealer should find comfort that Windshield Skin offers you and your clients the choice of both urethane and polyester.

How Do Urethane Films Compare to Polyester?

Urethane-based windshield protection films offer one major advantage over their polyester counterparts - ease of installation.

ATPU films are much easier to install than PET as they require no heat shrinking and just lay into place. The average installation time of a urethane installation is 20 minutes per windshield as compared to up to two hours for polyester.

However, polyester films offer better impact resistance and optical clarity.

Mil for mil, PET-based films offer better impact resistance when compared to ATPU-based films. That translates into more protection for the windshield. To offer a similar level of protection with a urethane-based film, the thickness of the material needs to be increased. For example, the protection afforded by a 4-mil thick PET film can be achieved by an 8-mil or thicker ATPU film.

A polyester film tends to offer better optical clarity than a urethane-based film of the same thickness. As ATPU-based windshield protection films tend to be thicker than their PET-based counterparts, the disparity in optical clarity is further increased.
