3M Insulating / Sun Control and Safety & Security Films are professionally installed by 3M’s window film dealer network and are not available to the DIY market.
There are multiple reasons why these films must be professionally installed:
- Any manufacturer’s warranty is usually voided if the product is not installed by a certified installer.
- The purpose of a window is to have an unobstructed view to the outside. When installed properly, window film will enhance your view. That is why it is imperative to have window film professionally installed – to enhance, and not obstruct, your view.
- When installing a tinted film on your window, you want to make sure that you’re installing a compatible film – one that will not cause glass to crack due to thermal stress. Your local 3M dealer has access to a set of 3M proprietary tools that determine if your glass is compatible with the desired film. Assuming 3M has granted approval to install its film and your glass cracks nevertheless, 3M provides a glass breakage warranty* to cover replacement costs.
- When installing a security film, it is imperative that the film be squeegeed thoroughly and attached to the frame properly to meet the manufacturer’s specification. All of 3M’s testing has been conducted to a certain standard and under certain installation conditions. Obtaining similar performance requires a similar professional installation.
