FAQ: What is the life expectancy of window film?

FAQ: What is the life expectancy of window film?

Different films have different life expectancies and life expectancy is dependent upon multiple variables (climate, exposure to sun, film, installation location, etc).

Insulating / Sun Control Window Films
Interior-applied insulating and sun control window films last longer than exterior-applied films as they are not subject to the elements. Non-metallized films also last longer than metallized films as metal tends to break down over time. However, it is not uncommon for a metallized interior-applied film to last 25 years or more. An exterior-applied metallized film has a life expectancy of up to three years while a non-metallized film has a life expectancy of up to 10.

Security Window Films
Interior-applied security window films last longer than exterior-applied films as they are not subject to the elements. Clear security films last longer than tinted security films. Non-metallized tinted security films last longer than metallized security films as metal tends to break down over time. However, it is not uncommon for a metallized interior-applied film to last 25 years or more. An exterior-applied clear security film has a life expectancy of up to eight years.

Glass Finishes
Interior-applied glass finishes can last 25 years or more.
